Expert insight from a carepartner daughter (someone I know and love dearly): she focuses on something special that her Mom enjoys, rather than the task her Mom needs help with. Kristin says to her Mom, "I'll put powder on your back." And after, she helps her Mom to put on her pajamas. Kristin's approach is so lovely: intentional, purposeful, connective, kind. She explains about her Mom, "She knows that she can't put powder on her own back, so she doesn't feel helpless. Of course in order to do the powder, we need to do the normal pajama process, but I don't focus on the pajamas." Really lovely.
Thanks to Kristin and all of the amazing, connective carepartners out there.
